ARTICLE IX - PART-TIME AND TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES
1. A part-time employee is one who is hired to work regularly less than 80 percent of the work week provided for in this contract. A temporary employee is one employed for a special project for a specified time, not to exceed three months, unless such temporary employee of more than three months is covering for someone on a leave of absence, in which case the specified time shall not exceed the length of the leave. The Guild will be notified in writing as to the nature of such project and its duration.
2. Part-time and temporary employees will not be employed for work where in effect such employment would replace an existing regular or full-time employee. However, a temporary employee may be hired to perform the work of an employee on a leave of absence, and such temporary will be covered by this Agreement except the leave of absence clause and such temporary may be dismissed upon return of the person whose place they filled.
3. Part-time and temporary employees will be paid on an hourly basis, proportional to the weekly minimum salary provided for their classification and experience.
4. Part-time employees will advance on the schedule of minimum salaries depending on the length of service according to the length of his or her employment with the Publisher.
5. Part-time employees who were hired prior to the signing of the contract dated December 18, 1989 will receive all benefits depending on the length of service as are accorded regular full-time employees.
6. For part-timers hired between the signing of the contract dated December 18, 1989, and the contract dated September 12, 2001, and continuously employed thereafter, the Publisher will contribute toward the cost of health benefits an amount pro-rated as compared to that contributed for full-time employees.
7. Part-time employees hired between the signing of the contract dated December 18, 1989, and the contract dated September 12, 2001, and continuously employed thereafter, will be entitled to life insurance benefits as are accorded regular full-time employees.
8. A part-time employee who is scheduled to work only one or two shifts a week will not be paid for a holiday unless the employee is regularly scheduled to work the day upon which the holiday is celebrated. Part-time employees who work three or more shifts a week will be paid for holidays on a pro-rated basis.
9. Part-time employees hired between the signing of the contract dated December 18, 1989, and the contract dated September 12, 2001, and continuously employed thereafter, will be granted the equivalent of two personal days based on the employee's average daily hours worked. Use of these personal days are to be agreed upon by mutual consent between the employee and his or her department head.
10. The benefits provided for eligible part-time employees under the terms of Sections 6, 7, 8, and 9 above and Article XXIV, Paragraph 2 will also be provided to part-time employees hired on or after September 12, 2001 until (i) the next three part-time employees have been hired by the Publisher or (ii) the expiration date of the contract dated September 12, 2001, whichever occurs first. Part-time employees hired thereafter will not receive such benefits.
