ARTICLE VIII - HOURS


1. The normal working day for regular full-time employees will be seven and one half (7 1/2) hours falling within eight and one half (8 1/2) consecutive hours and the normal working week for regular full-time employees will be thirty-seven and one half (37 1/2) hours within five (5) work days.

2. Work schedules will be fixed by the Publisher. All work in excess of normal on a working day and/or working week will be compensated for at the rate of time and one half in cash. However, Display Advertising Salespersons, Classified Outside Salespersons and Circulation District Managers are excluded from preceding sentence. No overtime will be worked without authorization except in an emergency. Employees will receive 48 hours notice before change in normal day off, except when such change is necessitated by disability or emergency. Persons including Display Advertising Salespersons, Classified Outside Salespersons and Circulation District Managers called or assigned on the 6th or 7th day are to be paid at the rate of time and one half.

3. The Publisher will post an employee's work schedule (date and reporting time) at least seven (7) days before the beginning of the Sunday through Saturday work week. The Publisher retains the right to alter an employee's work schedule when unforeseen circumstances beyond the Publisher's control force a change in work schedules for proper execution of the Publisher's business.

4. An employee assigned to work on one of the holidays designated in this contract will be paid time and one half for all hours worked, in addition to taking another day off on a prearranged date within 30 calendar days of the holiday worked.

5. An employee called back to work after completing a regular day's work and leaving will be paid not less than four (4) hours at the overtime rate for work and travel time.

6. A schedule of all work, including overtime work performed must be recorded in writing on forms provided by the Publisher and must be signed by the person rendering the work. Employees will make every effort to file claims for overtime pay within ten (10) days after said overtime has been performed. The Publisher will cause a record of all work, including overtime, to be kept. Such record will be made available to the Guild at reasonable times.

7. Employees may work schedules with flexible hours (i.e. schedules which vary, for

example, by the number of hours per day, by days per week, or by starting and

ending times, etc.), but such schedules shall be mutually agreed upon by both the employee and the Publisher. Employees will not be penalized for choosing not to work a flexible schedule, nor is the Publisher required to accept an employee's request for a flexible schedule.
