ARTICLE XXXI - GUILD SHOP
1. The Publisher will require, as a condition of employment of any employee who is a member of the Guild on December 18, 1989, and of any employee hired on or after December 18, 1989 and of any employee who is not a member of the Guild on such date who subsequently becomes a member of the Guild, that such employee be and remain a member of the Guild in good standing during the term of this contract. Any employee hired or transferred to a position to which the Agreement is applicable on or after December 18, 1989 will as a condition of employment become a member of the Guild not later than thirty (30) days of such employee becoming an employee of the Publisher. Guild membership, as the term is used in this section, shall mean "financial core membership," as defined by the National Labor Relations Board.
However, an employee who is a member of the Guild may terminate such membership by giving written notice to the Guild during the thirty (30) days preceding the termination date of the contract, and after the date such notice is mailed to the Guild such employee will not be subject to this paragraph.
Also, an employee at the time of the signing of this contract who is not a member of the Guild at the time of the signing of this contract, will not be required to join the Guild.
2. The Guild agrees that it will admit to membership and retain in membership any employee subject to the Constitution of The Newspaper Guild of the Communications Workers of America, and by-laws of the Guild.
3. The Publisher will supply the Guild on request with a list containing the following information for all employees covered by this contract:
a. Name, address, sex and date of birth.
b. Date of hiring.
c. Classification.
d. Experience rating and experience
anniversary date.
e. Salary, including the precise formula
for any commission or bonus arrangements
or other forms of compensation.
f. Social Security number.
4. The Publisher will notify the Guild in writing (monthly) of all:
a. Merit increases granted by the name of
the employee, individual amount,
resulting new salary and effective date.
b. Step-up increases paid by name of the
employee, individual amount, resulting
new salary and effective date.
c. Change in classification, any salary
changes by reason thereof and effective
date.
d. Resignations, retirements, deaths and
any other revisions in the data listed
in paragraph 3, and effective dates.
5. The Publisher will furnish the Guild, in writing, within a week after employment, the data specified in paragraph 3 for each new employee.
6. The Publisher may display, at his/her option, and with permission of the Guild, the official label or labels of the Guild and the International Union, Communications Workers of America, with which it is affiliated.
